THE 2000 WR400F.

THE 2000 WR400F.

For 2000, the WR400F receives additional improvements. Highlights include a new carburetor, "works-style" clutch lever and improved chassis and suspension. The WR utilizes Yamaha's radical compact 397cc five-valve, liquid-cooled twin cam engine with additional accessories incorporated for the rider that chooses the open space over the tight tracks.

Standard accessories include an increased CDI unit, a 60-watt halogen headlight, a taillight, voltage regulator, tripmeter, 18" rear wheel, 3.2 gallon fuel tank, wide-ratio transmission and a spark arrestor. The 2000 WR400F benefits from a new clutch design with a new "works-style" adjustable clutch perch and lever that makes for lighter action and a superior feel, resulting in less rider fatigue.

An all-new Keihin FCR, with throttle position sensor (TPS) carburetor is designed to offer better throttle response in a wide range of conditions. The new carburetor now features a red-colored hot start knob that is integrated into the carburetor. Another change on the intake for 2000 is the use of a light resin joint between the carburetor and the air box to replace the previous aluminum component.

New HT-780 high tensile steel tubing is lighter, thinner, yet stronger on the main tube. In addition, the headpipe is relocated to give a 5mm shorter wheelbase. These changes translate into a lighter, more nimble machine.

The suspension of the WR400F, like the YZ125, 250 and 426F, is upgraded at both ends. The forks feature new anti-stiction dust seals, new outer tubes with low friction internals and a lightweight aluminum piston rod for smoother suspension progress. The rear shock benefits from an aluminum bearing in place of the '99 steel item, and completely new adjustable compression damping adjuster, allowing the rider to dial in his suspension to meet the trail conditions.

Out back, finishing touches include a rear suspension design that results in less unsprung weight. Excel rims, previously expensive aftermarket additions, are standard on the WR400F in the front and rear (as with the YZ125, 250 and 426F) providing superb strength.

Yamaha's lightweight hub, aluminum spoke nipples, and 18" standard rear rim complete one of the most aggressive rear setups on a production machine today.

The 2000 WR400F will be available in Team Yamaha Blue/White and the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the WR400F remains unchanged at $5,899.
